I’ve been monitoring my visitor statistics, and I found out an interesting info. I am glad to see people from over 50 countries are reading my website. My most read recent article was about Wordpress 3.0, but I got most hits when I wrote about iPad. What is all the fuss about?
I’ve been reading that workers in China commit suicide (10 of them in a year) because of the awful working conditions. I mean, the company is putting a net surrounding the building to catch the jumpers. I mean, how sick is that? Who would have thought it would come to this? They are killing themselves while we enjoy the iPad, and Apple enjoys the profits? Is that ethical?
And there’s another thing… Recently, a video that was made in 2007 become popular once more. I think it was the last public appearance of Gates and Jobs together. In this video Gates brilliantly (a visionary as he truly is) talks about the future and predicts devices like iPhone, iPad, etc. Bill Gates Told Steve Jobs About the iPad in 2007 So they say that iPad is the new PC?
In regards with that, 1 million iPads sold in first month. I think it took iPhone 3 months to reach 1 million. This things aren’t cheap, and people are throwing themselves of the roof for making them! So something is wrong here… You can see on Wikipedia that Foxconn is responsible for production, and according to Wikipedia, they are earning billions as well. Anyone who has played Capitalism 2, knows this is the way you do things. But you need to draw a line, don’t you understand, people are dying because we are buying that product. (BTW, they are producing pretty much everything that’s hot, like Wii, Xbox 360, Kindle, Playstation, so it’s not just iPad).
People have been downloading and installing apps for iPad like crazy. Also, there is the Steve Jobs note on how he is protecting iPhone OS from Flash. Explaining that Flash is obsolete, crashes Macs, uses up the battery, not ideal for touch technology and whole lot of other stuff.
So. iPad is here. Now what? Buy it, encourage people to work more than 12 hours in awful conditions, and vote for Apple’s NO-GO for flash. Or, keep ignoring the single product that is hailed as the new PC era? What is all this coming to? Hearing about those workers in China, it reminded me of Matrix. Where human beings aren’t born anymore, they are grown, only to work in a factory.
